Tlatsini Culture Camp Pike Bay

The purpose of the Tlatsini Culture Camps was to provide an affordable, accessible opportunity for Tlingits (and non-Tlingit local citizens) to spend time together at a culture camp out on the land. The camps enabled people to reconnect with an important part of their territory, spend time with one another in a camp setting, and learn traditional Tlingit skills and knowledge, passed on by Tlingit Elders and cultural advisors.

This project was well received by the community since for many years, Taku River Tlingit leaders, elders and citizens have pointed out the need to re-connect their people, especially youth and families, to their ancestral lands. Doing so essential - to maintain and foster personal and community well-being, to reconnect Tlingits with traditional landscapes, and keep alive the Tlingit khustiyxh (way of life).
